Lecturers of the Biology Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Mulawarman University (UNMUL) spearheaded by Drs. H. Jailani, M.Si and Zenia Lutfi Kurniawati, S.Pd, M.Pd, involved students in this study program to carry out Community Service (PKM) activities in partnership with MTs Muhammadiyah 1, Samarinda City.

In addition, one of Tridarma's activities also involved the leadership of the Foundation, the Educational Education Council for the Regional Leadership of Muhammadiyah Samarinda City, Dr. Ir. H. Rustam Baraq Noor, M.P. Also participating were the Head of Air Hitam, Samarinda City, Samsul Said, SE and students of KKN Batch of 48 group 21.

The PKM program carried out is the Ecobrick Festival, where this activity competes for student work in making Ecobricks based on the criteria for assessing presentation, usefulness, strength and creativity.

This activity is the final stage of a series of community service activities that begin with workshops on making Ecobricks, monitoring Ecobrick making, compiling Ecobricks and finally the Festival. This PKM is held to raise students' awareness of the environment, especially in terms of waste management.

Ecobrick is a plastic bottle made from Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) filled with plastic material. Ecobrick is one of the creative efforts for the handling of plastic waste where Ecobrick itself is a plastic waste handling by trapping plastic so that it does not roam in the environment.

The function of the Ecobrick itself is not to destroy plastic waste, but to extend the life of these plastics and process them into something useful, which can be used for the benefit of humans in general.

This activity has a good impact on the school environment for students, parents and the physical environment of the school. The head of MTs Muhammadiyah 1 Samarinda, Ustadz Ahmad Tonthowi J., M.Pd said that, in the first week students were still confused about the Ecobrick concept but with coordination with students and teachers, students had begun to understand the Ecobrick concept and were excited to make Ecobrick.

“In the following week, the plastic waste at the school was completely processed by students, even the parents also helped collect garbage in the home environment to help students make Ecobricks. This makes students more concerned about environmental cleanliness which is a manifestation of Annadhofatu minal faith, which means cleanliness is part of faith,” he said.

It is hoped that in the future this program can continue to support the creation of Adiwiyata schools. At the end of the activity, prizes were given as appreciation to all participants. And prizes for the winners of the Festival.
